About FAMAS F1 Rifle The FAMAS F1 is a French bullpup assault rifle that was developed and manufactured by MAS (Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-?tienne) in the 1970s. It was adopted as the standard-issue rifle of the French military in 1978, replacing the older MAS 49/56 semi-automatic rifle and MAT-49 submachine gun. The FAMAS F1 is known for its distinctive bullpup design, where the action and magazine are located behind the trigger, allowing for a compact overall length without sacrificing barrel length.
